About the Mayor Eugene A. Braught Memorial Theater
In the early 1980's, the citizens of Weslaco approved a bond issue of well over one million dollars for the construction of the present library and and theater facilities, which opened to the public in January 1986. The theater is a Spanish style building with a seating capacity of 174. The theater facility includes a meeting room, which accommodates approximately 50 people.
The theater is joined to the library by a courtyard featuring a fountain and tropical plants. The Theater was designed by Weslaco architect, Gene P. Hobart.
The theater and the meeting room were renovated in 2007 with the recently updated Theater Screen and Red Curtains in February 2016. Following the renovation in 2007, the theater was dedicated as the Mayor Eugene A. Braught Memorial Theater. Since the rededication, the theater and meeting room have been devoted to promoting cultural events in Weslaco which include Pageants, Plays and Presentors.
